With 100% of precincts reporting, roughly 55% of Plano voters said no to Prop A, a venue tax on things like car rentals, parking and hotels. It would have helped fund a new Dallas Stars arena at the Shops at Willow Bend Mall site, FOX 4 reported from the election results.
City Manager Mark Israelson said the financing approach "would need to be reassessed before City Council considers any actions related to the arena." The Stars said they look forward to working with Plano as it pursues a project finance zone to be created by the Texas legislature. Dallas Councilmembers Paula Blackman and Adam Bazaldua said Dallas is willing to negotiate to keep the team, and Dallas News gathered reactions from both cities.
- Expected venue-tax revenue: $700 million to $900 million
- Cap on tax money for the arena: $700 million
- Planned completion: start of the 2031 season
- Stars' American Airlines Center lease: expires in 2031
